The hourly pay rate for this position is $18.00 - $25.00, depending on experience, education, licensure, and certifications.

Join our incredible team at Veterinary Medical Center of Woodland Hills as the next great step in your career. We are looking to add a full-time Veterinary Assistant to our team. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented team player who loves animals and is part of a fun, supportive team. They will have experience rooming patients, a willingness to learn and expand their career, knowledge of equipment used, drawing blood and running bloodwork, knowledge of x-rays and proper positioning, experience with proper animal handling and restraint, understanding the importance of client education, and being a positive and supportive team member.

Qualifications
  • Experience as a veterinary technician or assistant.
  • Strong animal handling skills and knowledge of clinical procedures.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT, RVT, or LVT) preferred or eligibility to obtain licensure based on state requirements.
  • Degree from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, and surgical procedures.
  • Safely handle and restrain animals; administer medications and vaccines.
  • Collect lab samples and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Educate clients on pet care and ensure a clean, organized work environment.

Additional Duties

  • Attends departmental and staff meetings.
  • Answer pages from the Client Service Representative (receptionist) for assistance.
  • Processes technician appointments.
  • Processes pharmacy requests.
  • Helps with examination room appointments (if schedule and patient load allow).
  • Assists staff members as needed with call-backs, logging drugs, and other duties as assigned.
  • Keeps the treatment area clean and stocked.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or educational equivalent.
  • At least one year of recent experience in veterinary practice or medical environment, with increasing responsibilities.
  • Ability to properly restrain patients.
  • Knowledge of spelling and meaning of commonly used veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • A commitment to outstanding client service.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 40 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stay on task and work energetically for the entire shift, sometimes exceeding 10 hours per day.
