Job Description

Title: School Principal

Reports to: Director of Educational Services

Department: ECF Kayne Eras School

Location: 5350 Machado Road, Culver City, 90230

FLSA Status: Exempt (12 months)

Compensation: $85,000 - $105,000 annually

Office Hours: MondayFriday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Supervisory Responsibility: Special Ed Teachers and Para-educators

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Educational Services, the Principal will provide leadership to ECF Kayne Eras School staff. The principal will work as part of a team with the Director and school leadership to promote, enhance, and effectively manage all school-related programs and activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Participate, in conjunction with the Director, in state certification, LAUSD Master Contracts, district reviews and visits, and WASC Accreditation.

Support teachers in implementing the state-standard curriculum, ensure state standards are used in the development of syllabi and weekly lesson plans, and check for compliance.

Collaborate with teachers to evaluate academic curricula and behavioral plans, determining the best fit for the current student population and its readiness for differentiated instruction.

Identify new curricula and programs that support the schools mission and vision statements.

Supporting teachers with school platforms (Gradelink, SEIS, Welligent, NWEA, GoalBook, and IXL)

Working with the director in planning the academic school year, including creating schedules, enrolling students into classes, and updating transcripts.

Maintain the Master Schedule, which includes self-contained and departmentalized classes.

Develop, manage, and direct the process for students to transition to the next grade level following district or state guidelines.

Conduct frequent formal and informal classroom observations to monitor teacher performance, implementation of lesson plans, and classroom management.

Support teachers with developing and writing IEPs, including assessment if necessary.

Communicate with parents and families.

Be a liaison between the school and outside agencies or programs

Supervise and support classroom support staff (TAs and AAs) with essential duties.

Assure teachers have IEP documentation completed one week before meetings.

Participating in student interviews.

Monitoring and approving timesheets for school staff.

Participate in safety training and meetings. Know emergency procedures, including fire, bomb threat, and earthquake drills, and follow them during any real or simulated emergency.

In consultation with the Human Resources Department, handle personnel administration, including hiring, development, evaluation, and dismissal of those supervised in compliance with ECF policies, practices, and procedures.

Develop and maintain a highly qualified and trained staff. Ensure staff maintain required certifications and licenses. Enforce ECF and school policies, including dress code policy. Ensure staff attend all required training courses, team and core meetings, parent conferences, etc., and lead meetings as appropriate

Implement ECF guidelines as they relate to medical emergencies, suspected abuse, neglect, and unusual incidents. Provide training to staff to ensure that all incidents and suspected abuse reporting requirements are understood and adhered to.

Report suspected abuse, client incidents, and injuries immediately and inform the direct supervisor; conduct follow-up as needed.

In consultation with the Dean of Students, ensure that disciplinary action is consistent with school, district and state policies.

Be part of the school leadership team. Collaborate with the Director of Enrichment on school-wide activities and projects.

Participate in school budget development and monitor overall budget performance with the Director.

Ensure the safety of students and staff by adhering to and overseeing compliance with ECFs Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

Ensure that staff follow protocol and procedures regarding all incidents and suspected abuse reporting requirements. Following up as needed.

Meet with the Director of Educational Services on a monthly basis

Other Duties

Comply with ECFs Injury and illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.

Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.

To provide continuity of services, exempt employees are expected to observe regular, on-site work hours.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Bachelors degree and current California Special Education Teaching Credential .

Experience:

A credential authorizing special education instruction and at least three years of experience teaching in special education before becoming an administrator. Four years supervising and/or mentoring professional-level staff.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

Knowledge of teaching strategies and current technology in the education field.

Ability to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Ability to lead and engage staff.

Understanding of IEP platforms

Understanding and application of various academic assessments (KTEA, WJIV)

Effective written and verbal communication skills. Always use tact and diplomacy.

Proficient in the use of MS Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Welligent, and SEIS.

Requirements

  • Obtain and maintain First Aid, NCI, and CPR certification.
  • Training in Child and Adult Abuse Reporting, Behavior Management, and Confidentiality
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.

Work Environment

This is a school environment for students (K12th grade) who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Employees may encounter students who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner. Administrative work will be performed in a separate office. However, incumbent will circulate in classrooms, outdoors, and other locations for meetings and special events. Environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noise, odors, varying indoor temperature, and drafts. Outdoor temperature and weather will vary.

Occasionally required to travel to various sites within Los Angeles County.

Ability to implement NCI, First Aid, and CPR.
