Job Description
Position summary : Seeking an experienced, energetic and hands on individual that plans, directs and implements the Company safety program to ensure a safe & healthy work environment.
Position responsibilities :
• Develops specific objectives and strategies to maintain an effective safety program that complies with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
• Conducts comprehensive on-site safety assessments of projects as part of constant monitoring process and monitors corrective actions taken
• Participates in pre-construction and handoff meetings
• Develops and administers safety incentive programs
• Develops and maintains documentation for the Safety Manual and Fleet Operations Program.
• Works with Human Resources to enforce the Substance Abuse Policy
• Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices
• Develops Tool Box Safety Talks in compliance with Company safety policies; educates project personnel
• Reviews accident and incident documentation to insure all required records and reports are complete and accurate; ensures corrective action is implemented
• Assists Human Resources in the administration of claims management of various insurance policies
• Represents the Company in all safety related hearings (OSHA, etc.)
• Prepares all required regulatory reports and ensures they are submitted timely
• Leads the investigation of accidents and incidents
• Maintains safety files and records; prepares reports for management as needed
• Plans, staffs and supervises all assigned department activities through appropriate delegation to department personnel
• Ensures company safety policies and safety procedures are communicated effectively
• Develops and continually improves the effectiveness of the department’s procedures
• Evaluates the performance of the departmental staff
• Provides advice and direction to department personnel toward their professional development
• Works with the Director of Human Resources on all personnel-related actions
• Performs additional assignments as directed by the President
Essential skills and experience :
• 4 year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combinations of training and related experience
• At least 10 years construction safety experience
• OSHA 30 and/or OSHA 500 certification
• Thorough understanding and working knowledge of all federal, state and local safety regulations (including OSHA regulations and reporting requirements)
• Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
• Ability to train and educate others
• Good computer skills
• Bilingual – English/Spanish
• Self – motivated and able to work without close supervision
• Experience managing multiple direct reports
