Nutritionist – WIC

Full-Time | Harris County – Baytown Area

Openwork is proud to partner with Harris County to recruit a passionate Nutritionist serving the Baytown community. Position Overview:

As a Nutritionist, you will provide individualized and group nutrition education and counseling that empowers families to make informed, healthy choices. Your work will combine client engagement, education, documentation, and collaboration in a supportive public health setting focused on prevention, wellness, and access to care.

You will be a trusted resource for families at important stages of growth and development, delivering evidence-based guidance with compassion and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with clients through culturally responsive communication.
  • Determine program eligibility based on residency, income, and health guidelines.
  • Provide individual and group nutrition counseling with practical, easy-to-follow guidance.
  • Recommend appropriate food packages and specialized formulas based on client needs.
  • Monitor and document client progress using growth charts, anthropometric data, and iron assessments.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant records in accordance with program standards.
  • Support quality assurance and compliance initiatives.
  • Participate in community outreach and health education efforts.
  • Collaborate with clerks, lactation consultants, and healthcare partners to ensure coordinated services.
  • Advocate for nutrition access, education, and equity for the families served.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field,
  • Minimum of 24 credit hours in Food and Nutrition coursework,
  • Strong communication skills with a supportive, client-focused approach,
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail,
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, public-facing environment,
  • Commitment to serving diverse populations with professionalism and empathy,
  • Ability to perform light physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and extended periods of sitting.
  • Genuine interest in public health, education, and community service.

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Third Saturday of each month: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Pay: $30.00 per hour (paid weekly)
