Summary:

Grace Christian Academy is seeking a Junior High Boys Basketball Coach who will mentor and develop student-athletes both in their athletic ability and Christian character. The coach will be responsible for leading a Christ-centered basketball program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

This position provides a unique opportunity to shape young athletes physically, mentally, and spiritually, using basketball as a platform to teach life lessons and biblical values.

Major Duties:

• Plan and conduct structured practices focusing on fundamental basketball skills, strategy, and teamwork.
• Teach the rules, techniques, and sportsmanship required to compete effectively while honoring Christ (Colossians 3:17).
• Foster a positive team culture that values hard work, humility, and perseverance (Philippians 2:3-4).
• Mentor players spiritually and personally, integrating biblical principles into coaching and team discussions.
• Oversee team participation in games and tournaments, ensuring athletes represent GCA with integrity.
• Encourage academic success and spiritual growth alongside athletic development.
• Communicate effectively with parents, administration, and the Athletic Director regarding schedules, expectations, and team progress.
• Ensure safety protocols, proper conduct, and eligibility requirements are upheld at all times.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for the Position:

• Previous coaching or competitive basketball experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of basketball techniques, training methods, and game strategy.
• Ability to mentor, teach, and motivate student-athletes at the junior high level.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Passion for using sports as a discipleship tool to develop student-athletes into Christ-honoring young men.
• Must be a committed Christian in agreement with GCAs Statement of Faith.

Additional Requirements:

• The Basketball Coach must have received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and be a member in good standing of a Bible-believing church.
• Coaches must meet Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) coaching qualifications.
• Reports to the Athletic Director.
