About the Role:

Are you ready to take the controls and help keep RDU’s fueling operations flying safely and efficiently?

As the Environmental Health and Safety Officer for our Maintenance and Fueling Systems Department, you’ll serve as our ground control for all things safety, environmental compliance, and training. You’ll be responsible for developing, implementing, and inspecting programs that ensure our fuel handling operations, equipment, and facilities meet the highest standards.

You’ll conduct regular walk-throughs—our version of a safety pre-flight—ensuring every fueling process is smooth, compliant, and ready for takeoff. You’ll also guide and inspect the performance of fuel maintenance and operations personnel, ensuring everyone follows proper protocols with precision and care.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conducts periodic inspections of departmental areas and other buildings to assist in identifying and resolving hazards that might cause employee or customer injury. Conducts refresher FAA FAR 139 Fire Safety and site-specific Hazard Communication training. Analyzes and evaluates existing jobs, processes, products, and systems to determine the existence of hazards.
  • Conducts and documents quarterly internal inspections and spot checks on employees, facilities, and equipment for both the fuel facility and the maintenance complex in accordance with all applicable regulations, guidelines, and standards listed in the department's operating manual.
  • Conducts monthly Fuel Building Walk-thru Inspection
  • Assists the Fuel Systems Manager in developing, implementing, reviewing, and inspecting the environmental, safety, and training programs involving fuel handling operations, equipment, facilities, and personnel.
  • Schedules employee fuel-related training; reviews and documents the appropriate records for employees who have completed training requirements; and monitors employee qualification status.
  • Conducts initial/quarterly external inspections on all into-plane vendor fueling equipment to ensure that they meet RDUAA requirements for safety and equipment type.
  • Conducts Fuel Storage quality audits with all airline representatives and FAA personnel. Reviews all airlines, Federal Aviation Administration, NC Department of Natural Resources, and OSHA websites for changes/updates pertaining to fuel environment.

  • Associate degree in fuels, safety training, environmental, or other relevant field OR equivalent relevant experience.

Experience:

Required:

  • 3 years of experience in fuel compliance, safety, and training, fuel audit, or related field.

Preferred:

  • 5 years of experience in fuel compliance, safety, and training, fuel audit, or related field.

Licenses or Certifications:

Required:

  • Current and valid driver’s license.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to successfully pass a color-blind test
